I think "freedom" should comprise the ability to choose to either
assimilate into the "mainstream" or to celebrate/emphasize one's cultural
heritage.  There are German festivals all over the US celebrated by folks
who were born here, as were their grandparents.  Same can be said for
Italian, Greek, and other Euro-Americans.  What's wrong with that?
