You can restore dash light function with a wire into the cabin, remove the 
current bulb and use your wire to hook up another. Thats how my '78 240D works.

      Bob Renfro was wanting specifics on bypassing the preglow 
relay.  Below is a post I made a couple years ago.   Don't know 
whether the pictures will show.  If not I can send them some other  way.
