I don't think this person knows just which car he/she owns, but it won't shift past 2nd gear. The problem persisted with the replacement tranny. Did the 2.5L equipped W124 and W201 cars have kick-down switches that could stick like those on the W123's?? If the car is still available, I'm tempted to find a driver to test drive it with me a little ways down the road so I can unplug the kick-down switch and see if it will upshift through all gears. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/4229151548.html
