ROFL!!! Hadn't heard that before. Seem to remember that castor oil and whale oil was used. As late as the (60s?) whale (sperm) oil was used in high performance engines of that era. Castor oil was used in race car engines of the '40s and '50s. I think the popular Offenhauser engines might have required it. You could smell it for blocks when the cars were racing at the Tampa Fairground.

Okra…didn’t they grind that stuff up in WWI and use it to lube airplane engines?

Slimeless okra? No problem. Find a well respected Southern cook or go to a

You'll be asking for more.

Barkless dog? How about a basenji?

Our okra is not very slippery - start it in a frying pan with a bit of EVOO
and the lid on. After is starts to get soft, take the lid off and let it
dry out some. Nicely cooked okra, no slime.

I have been eating okra lately.
Not quite oil, but... okra is quite like oil.
It occurred to me that okra might substitute for decent personal
lubricant? since it is sooo slippery. Okra lube does not work for
heat situations, but it certainly is slippery and green for most other
needs of slippery, I suggest. Yes, things come out the other end
slippery also.
