In my experience this is pretty much how it goes in a volunteer run things. If it weren't for Dwight ChowdaQ wouldn't have ever gotten off the ground. I certainly couldn't pull it off, I tried once and failed after all, of course it did rain...

The SF Bay Area section has something just about every month, and there are also the monthly "First Sunday Drives" which are very well done. We've toured numerous local sites, some of which were car-related but most of which weren't. Everything from visiting the Tesla factory (and driving the cars!) to walking amongst the elephant seals on the beach, visiting goat farms, wineries, museums etc. It's worth remembering that all of this is volunteer-driven. So the solution to having more events is simple: organize them yourself as a member. Having been a member of many clubs for various marques, the level of activity is always a simple reflection of certain members who always end up doing all the work. If your club section is inactive, it's probably because the handful of people who had been organizing everything for years finally burnt out and gave up. That's what typically happens. Then people start to wonder why the club exists. So the best way to change this is to become active instead of waiting for someone else to do everything for you. An active membership begets an active membership: self-fulfilling cycle.
