That's so you can get fingerprint marks all over the screen.
Seriously though, modern OS use touch screen technology as an extra
input system.
So instead of using the touch pad or a mouse you use your fingers on the
screen to navigate around the OS. Also there are hybrid laptops, where
the screen detaches from the keyboard, so it can be used as a tablet or
as a more traditional lap top. This is handy for those who need to type
a lot but also need to take the tablet part with them without the
clutter of a keyboard.
