I suppose after 30 days they figure that whatever parts that are needed will have been taken. Not sure if the local self serve wrecker here will sell a complete car, I know that sometimes they have whole cars for sale out the front, ones that are still working or are more desirable/rare. However everyone has their price, they have to work out how much they are likely to make off a car from parts plus the value of the scrap but we don't really have any real desirable models come into the self serve wrecker. Australia is a little different insofar that we tend to get the most out of cars before we send them off to the never never. You do see the odd well cared for Merc at the wreckers, that was involved in an accident but mostly they are worn out and neglected pieces of crap, that have become uneconomic to repair or have been defected by the police.

yeah, I know they have lots of rules - it was such a shame to hear that all those great parts went to the crusher. The Wheels were the newer style (8 slot?) for W124s, IIRC, the engine was a complete diesel with the IP, alternator, starter, head, etc in what looked like a cared for environment. I didn't rush to get back but that was before I knew it would only last 30 days. I am on their email list to hear when they get another.

The salvage yards usually will not sell a whole car no matter what
