I know my fans come on -- as long as the AC is on. i can also watch
the gauge go down when they come on. They come on at the numbered mark
just below the red area -- 100c perhaps?
Thanks - I'll look through the WSM for a test method for W124 fan
clutch -- which will no doubt require a complex MB specialty tool!

Mine - when it was working right - would stay just above 80C. When
stopped or in stop n go, it would go to the mark above the 80C mark but
no higher than that. but lately - with my leaks and other problems -
iit would go higher but come back down when we started moving - like
yours.
Dwight's comment is interesting though - makes sense. I wonder if
there's a way to test the fan clutch?
There was on the W123, so there must be on the W124, but I don't know
what it is.
Our '95 E320 behaves like Kaleb's. I'm thinking the auxillary fans don't
come on.
I hate to replace parts hoping it /might /be the problem.
Indeed! The hardest part of good auto repair is often the diagnosis.
