In a climate like NC, I see snow tires, especially Hakkas, to be a serious 
waste of money.

Any good quality all season radial should do. Spending the cash on snow tires 
would give you a marginal advantage, if that. Factor in the cost of tires, 
wheels, annual R&R and storage and you are tossing money out the window IMHO.
