Federal Air Regulation #1: When the gross weight of the paper meets or
exceeds the gross weight of the aircraft, FAA may grant approval.

I note the pilot was age 46, which I take to mean he applied for approval
to fly with the artificial limb at age 20, got approved at age 35, and
could only fly with the one FAA [UK equivalent] approved artificial limb
which was certified for flight, no substitute permitted. It had to be
inspected pursuant to it's own overhaul manual and repair cycle by the one
FAA approved and licensed shop which is now closed for FAA incident
investigation. etc etc etc.

"I'm from the FAA, and I'm here to help you. Remember, we're not happy
until you're not happy"

Grant... [who is past owner of several FAA licensed repair shops and a
Commercial Pilot with a snark sense of humor]
