Congrats!

Did you try pulling the brushes once the alt was out of the car?

Replaced the alternator with an Advanced Auto lifetime warranty Bosch reman. $135 when it was all said and done.

When I got under the car there was no way I could get the back cover off in situ, so I went ahead and just pulled the alternator.

Relatively simple job, except getting it out. MB recommends pulling the fan, but that was going to be a PITA so I dropped the sway bar, which was far easier and much less intrusive.

I struggled for a little bit with deciding to go with the FLAPS reman, but the more I thought about it, this is a $1200 car, so why should I be investing big bucks in it?

Everything is back together, it's charging up a storm, and all is well. Not a bad job at all, maybe a total of an hour and a half start to finish.
