We called them "Turkey Shoots" in Wisconsin, didn't raise them to quite the 
same art form / celebration.

Once when I was involved in a joint operation, on base there was a platoon from 
some European country with feathered hats very similar to those on the 
pictures.  We found them quite amusing, now I'll bet those hats are related 
somehow to this Schützenfest.
