'Havin' to do a field/home mod on a "$75 thou" car to make it reliably do what the original cheap bastards shoulda done. Now, that makes me damned mad - almost as mad as I was when I learned about the rod bender engine in the "top-of-the-line" 350SDL I paid plenty-good money for in '95.

Rear window regulator uses a cable, front uses bastardized design combining
electric motor with hand crank mechanism (or at least that what it looks
like to me).

Didn't someone develop a field modification to strengthen the door or the
regulator to reduce the flexing (and the resulting metal fatigue) and
prolong the life?

I will take the complement but only vaguely remember extracting said parts

not a mechanical linkage, to run the window up and down.
