I purchased a 1972 BMW R60/6 motorcycle for a $100 once. The engine was
locked up from sitting many a year. I let some oil sit in cylinders for
several day and then hook a rope to the back of pick up, took it out on
street and dropped clutch two or three times at 35MPH before it broke free.
After I got it running it ran great. I drove it too college and back several
time (200 miles each way). Then after about 2 year it started smoking real
bad from one cylinder. I check price of rebuilding and it was more than bike
was worth. So then I decided I would blow it up.

So my girl friend at the time lived about 45 miles from school on I-40. So I
took off to her house and held the motorcycle wide open. The top speed was
around 85MPH, I held it there. I got about 35 miles before I heard a soft
pop and the bike stopped running. I coasted about a mile to next exit and
stopped at gas station. The engine was so hot I could not check oil.

I ended up selling the windshield and saddle bags off the bike for $200.

I do miss the bike, with the dry clutch it would do really nice wheelies
down the road. You should see the looks you get doing a wheelie down the
road on a big bike with hard saddle bags and full windshield and flaring.

Tell us the other half of the story, this half was pretty good.
