Well yes i agree -my 124 is,quieter than my 123's. I just never thought of
them as loud. But prior to that the only diesels I drove were fire engines
with cab over Detroit diesels - they were loud.

At idle/stopped, the 110 with OM621 was noisy enough to let you know
it was a Diesel, but even at 25 MPH, it was quiet. The 115 was
better and the 123 Diesel was still more quiet. Each generation of
MB Diesels gets more quiet, as do the Diesel pickups, at least when
they leave the factory.
None are annoyingly noisy nor will they vibrate if all things are in order.
