I have been watching some of the prices at our local HF store (I guess
that's better than a local HCl or H2SO4 store ... :-) ) and noticed they
jack up the prices before having a sale.
Case in point: When I was asking about impact wrenches recently, I bought
a set of SAE impact sockets for $19.95. Recently, with a 20% off coupon,
I went into the store and found those and the Metric version were
purple-tagged and listed at $24.95. I used the 20% off coupon and got
them for 0.8 x 24.95 = $19.96.

Most bigger chains have hired the wallymert escapees, and have
learned most of the walton tricks for separating you from your money
while making you think you got a "Deal."
Doncha love how they were advertising "american" 20 years ago while
they were quietly turning china into the biggest supplier. For a
while, I thought walmert might be able to bring china to its knees,
but now it is the other way around.
The only good deals at wallymert are loss leaders on things that
people track prices of. Most things you can buy for less elsewhere.
All in all, HF has fair prices on most things. Some things are junk,
some things, like sockets and wrenches are great. Some things you
can buy elsewhere for the same or nearly the same.
HF wanted $125 for an electric impact wrench, with one battery and a
charger; The wicked woman wants $131 for a Dewalt with no battery or
charger, or $280 for the wrench, 2 batteries and a charger. Since I
already have batteries and a charger, I will opt for the dewalt,
because the batteries interchange with my other stuff. I am not sure
if the dewalt is really any better, but it will impress others far
more than a CE one will.
