Is it a vacuum motor or solenoid? Either one could be a bit goopy and
benefit from some cleaning and lubing.

Laboring may not be the right word. They lock/unlock at the appropriate
speed, quickly, but I can hear them operate. It sounds almost like when
you open a balky hood latch. But, I guess it's normal.

They are vacuum just like all the other cars. If they are laboring you
have a leak somewhere.

When utilizing the key fob to lock/unlock the doors on the 98 e300, it
sounds like the trunk and the fuel door are laboring. Now do these
operate
electrically unlike any other diesel I've had up to now? Since it sounds
lie they are struggling a tad, is there a maintenance action like lubing
something?
