The effort makes it taste twice as good.

Last night I made some fava beans, the last the farmstand had. The guy there who cooks a lot of interesting things told me how to cook them. Shuck the beans, which took forever as there were only 3-4 beans in a pod. Then boil them for 3 min, easy part. Then dump them in ice water to stop cooking. Then you have to shuck the beans from a skin around them, which took twice forever. Then saute them a bit in a pan with some garlic, onion, whatever. Turns out they were not particularly special, they tasted OK but not worth the time and effort. I do have lots of stuff for the compost bin though.

The chianti, on the other hand...
