The effort makes it taste twice as good.
Last night I made some fava beans, the last the farmstand had. The guy
there who cooks a lot of interesting things told me how to cook them.
Shuck the beans, which took forever as there were only 3-4 beans in a
pod. Then boil them for 3 min, easy part. Then dump them in ice water
to stop cooking. Then you have to shuck the beans from a skin around
them, which took twice forever. Then saute them a bit in a pan with
some garlic, onion, whatever. Turns out they were not particularly
special, they tasted OK but not worth the time and effort. I do have
lots of stuff for the compost bin though.
The chianti, on the other hand...

Clingstone peaches really s*ck, man. How can you make a pie if you

No they are your regular peaches, with kinda pointy ends. Not
freestones. They are not particularly soft but even sorta hard
they are ripe and juicy and sweet. They would probably make good
pies.

Are these the white peaches that grow so fast the pits are
shattered? We have nonpareil white MD peaches available in
late June - the first of the season - that have this
characteristic. They also bruise if you stare at them crosswise.
