Rust?... What is rust? ... If you look at the sky condition in the video.. that's what it looks like here for 360 days out of the year... ;)) .08 inches of rain last month.. it was a "wet month"... haha..
Trailer hitch ball sticking out the back of a vehicle is almost required here.. If you bark your shin on one.. you will remember next time to give some space to other vehicles.. On closer inspection of the wreck damage, looks like the hitch mount and sturdy receiver hitch with ball took the hit, returned major damage to the attacking car and helped reduce the sheet metal damage. If you look on the site that sells the Black Box cameras, there is a "people who bought this also bought" list below it.. One of those items is a 12V to 5V hard wire power supply, and beside that is a listing for wiring connectors to tap into your fuse box for a "key on" power. The power supply has a generous 15 ft power cord. Cost is less than $10. I bought one.. have not yet installed it.. for now, a duplex power plug for the lighter port has been working. After this event.. a dedicated rear facing camera is on my list.. as is an on board digital hard drive, in a locked compartment. Off to talk to lawyers and doctors... and body shops.. and the police.. busy work..
