Howdy,
I'm considering a 92 300D 2.5 Turbo & need your help. 1st, what gas mileage
can I expect? How loud will it be (idling and at 65 or so) - using my
current 78 240D as a comparison? Same question but for acceleration - again
comparing it to my 78 240D. ;-)
MUCH quieter than your 240D either at idle or on the highway! On the
highway, wind and tire noise is the loudest thing you should hear. Fuel
economy will exceed 30 mph on the highway (may sometimes reach 34-36)
and mid/high 20s in city stop and go. 0-62 mph in a 240D takes about 25
sec, in a 300D 2.5 it's about half that.
I will always remember driving my '87 300TD for the first time at 100
mph (I had done that with my 123 wagons and engine noise was quite
apparent at 100 mph). The only difference driving the 124 wagon at 50
mph and 100 mph was that the telephone poles went by a LOT faster!
