'Nother thing to not like: Oil "dipstick" is a dipcable - twisted
steel strand CABLE. Location is at far rear edge of engine. When
withdrawing the dipcable, the top end reaches underside of hood before
the bottom end clears the tube. If ya keep pulling without guiding the
dipcable with second hand, the bottom end can flip black Diesel oil to
points unknown as it clears the tube. Cables are usually good in
TENSION, not usually so good in COMPRESSION; tends to buckle when
re-inserting it; hafta use TWO hands and grip the oily CABLE itself
about midway and push to get it inserted. Damned annoying. Hafta wear
"surgical" gloves just to chk oil.

The engineer who designed that should be severely whipped with his
dipcable. That might put some sense in him.

P.S. Our Big Red Van has a very easy-to-use dipstick for the automatic
transmission. The dipstick for the engine oil is very long and goes
through at least two turns before it gets to the pan. It requires
the same technique as yours to get back in place.
