From the looks of it, it seems like the floor is rusted from moisture comingthrough the trunk or window seal rather than road salt How much was the floor panel that you purchased?

Ah, another 1973 220D with rust in the trunk floor! This one I have is not
actually rusted through, but it wouldn't take much to break through it.
