Your house is huge though, we manage to get by with 1/3. You also pay around
1/4 of our TOTAL mortgage/tax/insurance just in insurance...
We don't include the basement in sqft though, guess we'd be around 1200 if we
did but its only 6' high so hard to really move around in much.

I think I have a complaint about homeowner's insurance that would rival Florida
costs!  Mine costs over $3600 a year!  That is without earthquake insurance.
If I had earthquake insurance it will be $4000 per year.  This is on a house
built in 1979, 3200 sq. ft. (including the basement), full brick, attached
garage on .4 acres.  The value is only about 15% higher than the median home
value in Wichita.

Move to Florida if you want to complain about homeowner’s insurance.

I had earthquake insurance on the home we owned in Indiana.  They have had
quakes in Indiana on occasion due to the proximity to the New Madrid fault.

In 2011 I paid about $1100/year with State Farm for full coverage on a 4,000 SF
house on 1/2 acre of land.  That included all the usual coverages including
wind, (tornado) sewer backup and earthquake.
