Around here even flat panel monitors are near worthless, and a CRT is a liability. The U is selling 17" to 19" flat panels for $3, and the smaller ones for $1, until they mark them down. Some go for a quarter.

I am still keeping Sony trinitron CRTs because they are so good. When they die, they will go away.

When I still worked at the lab as sort of a sysadmin, the techs would bring me their CRT TV's for repairing. Most just needed tubes, power transistors, or flyback transformers, but some were not repairable. I would salvage small parts out of them, but the large CRTs were a problem to get rid of. There was a high block wall enclosure housing a large garbage container behind the draw station. I knew that CRTs would explode if broken, so experimentally I put a big one inside three or four heavy duty plastic bags and dropped it over the block wall into the garbage container and ducked. It made a loud bang and glass shards went through the bags like they weren't even there. So much for putting them in the dumpster. I don't remember what the eventual solution was. I think the landfill here in Citrus County accepts them, so I'll pay their price whatever it is.
Thanks, Gerry

Sadly they're basically valueless. Some places will only charge you $5 to get rid of one, often its $10. Might put it on Craigslist and see if somebody wants it. I bought a 24" Viewsonic a few years ago for just over $100, its been an excellent monitor.

Subject: [MBZ] CRT Monitors

Has everyone lost interest in the old CRT monitors?
I have a 17" Compaq in the garage which was working well when an LED replaced it. It's very heavy, so shipping cost would be considerable.
