If you are running dino, don't attempt extended drains, just change at
3-5kmi and use good stuff like Delvac-1300, etc. Oil analysis is
recommended for extended drain intervals (to ensure you're not going
past the oil's useful life), or if you just want to keep track of the
general condition of your internals by watching the PPM's of various
metals, etc. I have analysis done at every change on my diesel and
E500, but don't bother doing analysis on any of my other vehicles. (I
used to do it on the W123 while I owned it... interesting to compare
the 617 and 603 data!).

Anyway, OK Don, with a new-to-you car, it wouldn't hurt to get an
analysis done on whatever is in the crankcase now, when you drian it &
before refilling with M-1. But, it's not critical either. Depends if
you don't mind spending the extra $20.
