Sadly, no longer.  Ultimately I blame the trend towards reliance on other
packages, DLL's in Windows and .so's in the Unixen, etc.  This is widely
now the norm in software development circles.  Apps become so dependent
upon code outside of themselves, code that is upgraded willy nilly, that
they lose the ability to even function except in a 'perfect' environment.
The complexity of interactions is so bad that nobody can even identify what
the root problem is.  All it takes is for _one_ of these things to change,
and then suddenly they all have to.  Anybody not moving along with the herd
gets screwed.

Programming by committee, in essence.  What would you expect?
