Agreed. I found a fairly cheap digital thermostat that runs off the
wires for the old honeywell 40 y. o. thermostat.
A well placed and well deserved rant is good!

Alles.
Today started out at about 20 deg F and the house was cool-ish. The
house is well insulated, so I didn't think too much of it and put on a
sweater. Wife complains of cold (again) so the thermostat is checked ,
59 deg, Ooops!
Dead AAA batteries in the thing, replaced same, aaah warm.
I loath critical systems run by battery driven electronics! My olde
Honeywell electro-mechanical thermostat ran 30 years before it became
unreliable.
All of my vehicles will run without electrons once started, just the
way I like it!
