I completely agree, the W123 is very primitive compared to the W126. However, It’s a nice contrast to the W126 and you also feel more like you’re participating in the driving task in a w123 as opposed to sitting on the couch and watching it go by as one does in a W126.
And it’s SO damned simple. I learned my lesson on the W140s. I want easy/simple/no frills. The W123 truly checks all of those boxes.
