Andrew, 
We had pawpaw trees in Southern WV. I ate pawpaws when I was young. I don't 
remember the early bloom as Feb would be too cold, maybe mid March. I remember 
some of the trees being 10-12 feet in height and they did tend to grow in the 
shade of large oaks or maples. Great fruit to eat and a preferred meal of 
various wildlife as well.
