Yeah, my old man said that was the only thing that worked for me.:)

Depending on how you are connecting the pump, it may or may not run. If
you are using the original circuitry, there may be a feedback shutoff
that keeps the pump from running if certain conditions (fuel pressure,
engine speed, etc.) are not met. I had this problem on a Ford (Forgive
me) Powerstroke.

Stuck!  You could try hammering on it.  (Not hard enough to break
it, just get its attention.)
