It's certainly worked well around here most years, and it seems to be working well this year since no one in my extended family has had a cold other than my son who lives in Orlando, as well as the people I see in public. Orlando is where I caught a severe cold last year which almost turned in to pneumonia. I think the reason people seem to have more severe colds in Orlando is because it's an international city with people flying in from all over the world continuously. They might be bringing new variants of flu viruses in that are not included in the American and European flu shots. There are several factors at play in any kind of infection. A dominant factor is the condition of a persons immune system. When the flu shot doesn't prevent a cold; it can be the antibodies your immune system makes in reaction to the flu shot that prevents colds. If a persons immune system is not as strong as it should be, the flu shot can be ineffective.
