Ever have a ball joint separate from the taper while you're trying to loosen the nut? All 3 on my W163 did that. Track link I finished taking the nut off by using a jack to shove the taper together. That wasn't so bad. Upper ball joint nut jammed solid when there was only about one thread left exposed above it. Had to cut the nut off. My fault for forcing it when it started getting hard to turn.
The lower ball joint started spinning as soon as I started turning the nut. I can torque it back down with the air wrench, loosen it a half turn or so and then it starts spinning the stud again. Figured I could rock it back and forth, since the nut was moving a little. 20 tighten/loosen cycles later and no change, I gave up on that idea. Any idea how to get this thing apart, aside from grinding the flange off the nut so I can get my nut splitter on it? I'm about ready to give up for now, shoot it with Kroil every weekend until April, and deal with it then.
