So I must have the best of both worlds, an 83 300TD that has an
85 differential in it. I do like that for the lower RPM on the
highway but it does impact just slightly on the acceleration. The
mileage seems to be very slightly better with the 85 diff but
then it may be just that I've slowed down a bit.
I do still have the old transmission in it so the shift has not
changed. I can still and do like the fact that I can feel it shift.

Not everyone. I like the '85 123. It is the most refined of all of
them, and it had the best gearing. Usually, the last model year(s) of a
production run are the best. The 210's bear this out also, I believe.
So you like them for driving and the others dislike them for fixing.
