The aluminum is very difficult to get out because the rubber is rock hard, you have to very carefully pry it loose. Probably need to cut the rubber to remove it, it won't come out very easily.
The new seals are much softer -- put on the glass, insert the straightened and cleaned up aluminum, and lace in per instructions. You want a set of those suction cups on a stick to manage the window, else it takes three people.
