Really? That would be like discovering the Northwest Passage.  Where is the
small removalble panel?  I don't rememeber noticing one while under there.
I don't see one pictured anywhere in the shop manual.
And accoring to the shop manual, removing the entire oil pan is not trivial
on this model

The mention of the side panel refers to OM603.96, 602.96 and later OM602.91 engines with EGRs. I don't believe that a 606.91 engine has such a port (but I haven't ever looked). Check out 01-315 in the 602/603 engine manual. The sections covering the same jobs in the 606 engine manual don't show any side access and turbo OM603.97 and OM606.96 engines don't seem to have the port.
