S'matter of fact I know where there is one. I don't know if its in any kind of shape or actually for sale but its on a lot and has no plates. At least it was there a month ago... I can go check on it next weekend if you like. For what its worth my '81 300TD was an outstanding driving car excepting that it was a basket case. I'd love to have one that wasn't entirely beat to snot. I know a guy thats got an older pre-turbo one with a 4spd. I need to get a chance to get behind the wheel of it. -Curt Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2006 17:06:54 -0500 From: "John Peterson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] 1990 Mercedes Benz 300D 2.5 Turbodiesel To: "Mercedes Discussion List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original
I am really wanting to drive the 87 TD. I haven't found anyone with one around here yet. I think the 2.5 is fast. Anyone have one in RI or MA? I'd like to see one. --------------------------------- Brings words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo! Mail. Getting the seat back in was a BEAR. The nuts are those clip on things and they kept sliding out of the way. Finally had to go out and get a 1/4" ujoint socket as there was no way to get the rear bolts in without it. With the ujoint it was no big deal. Seat is now very comfortable. I spend at least 8 hours a week in that seat so this will be very nice. While I was at it I filled a hole in the upholstry with Shoe Goo and covered some thinning MBTex in the back rest with some too. Hopefully that'll keep it from erodeing. I'd have changed it if I'd noticed before I got started... I'd hate to do that job again so I'm hoping for the best. The keys I found weren't even Mercedes keys, 2 housekeys and 2 GM car keys. Into the trash with them... -Curt Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2006 18:32:51 -0500 From: "Dwight E. Fixing the seat in my 240D was the best investment I ever made. I spend about 6-12 hours a week in that seat and wish I had fixed it when I got the car t instead of doing the spring padding, etc. Were any of those keys steel keys? I broke down and removed the panel then removed the housing. I popped the cover off and had to partly disassemble the internals. Had to remove the motor/gear mechanism and the guide tube. Finally removed the old mast by pulling it out thru the housing! It had a ring around the lower mast section keeping the mast from coming out from the top. If anyone runs into a similar problem with a mast let me know and I can send detailed instructions. My new mast (from Rusty) works like a charm - going up and down - but the motor is still noisy. Glad it *over*!!
