As another poster mentioned, I have had good luck with a Whirlpool Duet washer. There were several models to choose from, and I went with the German made one that had a more robust bearing setup. It failed with an error message once, and the error message actually pointed to a defective switch. I bought the switch from an online appliance parts purveyor for cheap, completed the repair in about 10 minutes. Very satisfied.
The Duet replaced a Neptune that SWMBO demanded (based on that her friend had one) and did not end well. The Neptune dryer still is fine after 20 years. I did research Consumer Reports (available online through the public library) which I consider a decent resource for this type of product. YMMV.
