First of all, take the car to someone reputable and make sure there is no further damage. Sometimes the pros can see things that you miss.

I went to pick up my car at lunch today, which was parked right in front of
a Funeral Home on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and a side street in
northwest DC. To my horror, the front bumper was knocked off that is, the
rubber strip was detached and the side rubber cover at the Left End of the
bumper was torn. There was a note on my windshield from the funeral home
however. Turns out some older lawyer guy took a shortcut through the
funeral home driveway to avoid a light, and in so doing scraped his car
against my bumper. He tried to drive off, but a couple of dudes from the
funeral home chased witnessed the accident, chased him down him down and
forced him to turn over his personal identification. The guy from the
funeral home and I try to reattach the strip but ended up just tying it
down with a piece of twine. My question is, should I contact contact this
lawyer guy privately or should I go through my insurance company? The whole
thing could probably fixed for $100 but it is a hassle to go to my tech or
do it myself. Any creative ideas out there?
