In pictures, looks better than my 2003, has 20k less miles. Tires look quite new, if potentially a bit noisy. But it doesn't have the 2000 model year upgrades, and rumor used to be that the 1998-1999 MLs were not that great mechanically (transfer case and maybe transmission). But, if it doesn't leak steering fluid, the belt tensioner is good, the drivetrain steering and suspension seem tight, I don't think you're risking too much if you offer $2500 for it. Can't say I like the roo bar, but if it'll help stop Bambi from taking out the radiator...
