I go with Randy. Long wires from battery to the motor wires. Your idea of switching wires at the motor connection in the door would also work and at the same time show you that the switch is bad. Could also do that by just pulling the switch and connecting the wires from the battery to the motor wires right there. Save a bit of work.

Yes, and don't just check with a meter. Use one of the testers with a light bulb in it. Sometimes one will get enough voltage to make the meter show it but not enough to power anything. Run a long wire from the hot side of the battery to the terminal on the motor and see if it moves when power is applied. Keep hands out of the way in the event it goes up or down quickly.
