A couple weeks ago I noticed a little drip in the hot water line going to the
kitchen sink. This is down in the basement so I kicked a bucket under it and
made a note to fix it. Then about 2 weeks ago Angie points out a leak directly
under the sink. That one turned out to be the outlet from the sink. The
plumbing directly under the sink is all plastic, then a short steel pipe like
what you'd have for a vanity, then a copper pipe to the sewer line. The steel
pipe had rotted away completely but was between the floor and the floor of the
cabinet, what a bugger that was to fix, cost us half a day of vacation...
While fixing that I found a small leak in the cold water line, kicked out
another bucket...
Last Sunday I fixed the cold water leak, the worst part of that was the hose
bib which was made up of a zillion little pieces and had apparently supported
something else at some point. I took out 18 feet of pipe and replaced with 14
feet in a straight line.
Today I did the same thing with the hot side including replacing two failed
shut offs and finally making sure no pipes touch. The last "plumber" that
worked here apparently didn't know you could run pipes at different heights and
put all manner of sponges between them to keep them from rubbing.
Whew. Tomorrow the ASV (snowmobile trailer groomer) gets new heater hoses, more
plumbing...
