I'm going to buy a used HP Z420 workstation and need help determining which parameters will actually be significant for a faster PC. I will be mostly doing photo editing in Lightroom, with some Solidworks drawing and video editing.
So, the options are: Xeons from 4 to 8 core, (E5-1607 v2 to E5-2650 v2) with speeds from 2.6 to 3.7 GHz and video cards from Quadro K500 to Quadro K5000. *What to choose - more cores, more Hz, and which video card is faster in these applications?* I've been out of the PC field too long now . . . but my Core 2 Duo at 2.93GHz and 8 GB RAM is getting frustratingly slow. I added an EVGA GeForce GT 630 1 GB dual video card to get two monitors, but it didn't seem to change performance any. -- OK Don *“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.”* – Mark Twain "There are three kinds of men: The ones that learns by reading.
