I have 2 sons. The younger is an auto mechanic. Paid his dues, so to speak, got his red seal journeyman certificate and bought and paid for a box full of expensive tools. Got paid to be an apprentice and the program paid his tuition for the periods he went to school. Now he has managed to get himself hired on with the City so he has a good wage plus benefits. He is very good at what he does.

The elder went to university and has a master's degree. He got lucky, and he proved himself. He has a good job in his field, unlike many of his former classmates. He is an architect and currently working on the rehab of the main parliament buildings in Ottawa. He has no student debt as we were able to pay his tuition and other expenses and he went to the University of Manitoba, which is essentially within sight of our home. My wife also worked there for 40 years.

I am proud of them both. They are quite different people. The younger did not really enjoy school, while the elder did so it is not a surprise that they have followed different paths.
