As long as you stick to a name brand you should be fine. You really don’t have 
to worry about the “smart” aspect of these as long as you don’t connect them to 
a network. I connect mine once every few months, jump into the menu to run 
updates, and pull the (network) plug as soon as it’s done.

I think the big thing these days is LED vs. OLED(?) I know one of them is 
significantly more expensive but the picture quality is noticeably better.
