Comedy of errors here.
Firstly, 1 und 1 didn't charge me for my hosting package last summer. My
fault because my credit card expired and I didn't give them the new
expiration date.
I find out about it when they send it to collections a month later.
I try to pay it, and the system tells me I have to pay the collector, 1und1 won't accept payment from me directly.
I probably should have called them and told them that wasn't going to happen.
After a few months with nothing happening, I figure I'll just pay for two years
when it comes up for renewal again in July.
March 8, 1 und 1 deletes my account without warning.
I call them up, and they tell me they'll set up my bill so I can pay it
and send me a link to pay. Never got anything from them, and it's been 3 weeks
now.
So, after wasting a week waiting for 1und1 to send me a bill, I transfer
my domain to HostGator. That goes reasonably well, Wed March 25th my
transfer is complete. Hurray.

But my registration doesn't propagate. I talk to them Thursday afternoon,
they tell me everything's good, just wait.
Tuesday, with zero progress in propagation, I talk to HostGator again.
Guess what, my registration isn't going to begin propagating until they
reset my registration to point to their servers. Minutes later, I have
functional email. That should have happened when I talked to them
Thursday. (actually, it should have happened Wed when they finished processing
my domain transfer...)
