1979 M.B. 240D diesel, i have had car about 10 yrs?; clear title & tag
rebuilt engine, $1635,parts & machine shop only;(cam, rockers, valves &
crank about only thing not NEW in engine)   ; other things done to it;
takeing a loss or trade for??? or M.B. 300D turbo 82-85 any condition
considered?, or Ranger 88 4X4 auto shift 5 speed man. trans. ? ; when i
got it removed trim & bumpers etc. & fixed all rust spots i could find,
then had cheap zodiac blue paint job done; almost  30k miles on engine;
rebuilt starter, alt. both rear axles; fast start glow plugs, new nozzles
in rebuilt injectors; interior looks pretty good, beige, but padding is
falling out of seats i have a list of items changed, improved, or rebuilt
on this car, fast start glow plug addition; after about 10 seconds glow
plug, starts right up; any info. a/c holds freeze 12 but elect. clutch
won't pull in, unless you push in, then it will hold; tires, not very
good,  & 2 rotors are rough, like new pads all, sometimes trans doesn't
hold in PARK, but works real good!; please email me; thanks, Steve

                           If the rheostat in your 240 is the same as that 
in my 1983 300TD, it is a rather crude device with a coil of fine wire glued 
into a ceramic base in semicircular form, with a wiper arm that rotates over 
the coil.  The adhesive gave up in mine last year causing erratic operation. 
Once I pulled the IC, the failed adhesive spilled out in a fine white 
powder.  I reset the coil in silicone adhesive in the base and it has worked 
fine since.
