I recall my dad telling me the dit-dit-dit-dah mnemonic when I learned Morse
in Scouts.  
For three years, Dad lived in a tent and flew P-47s in China.  He loved the
P-47 because it always brought him home, unlike the water-cooled P-51s.  He
seldom talked about combat but teared up when he did.  His eight
wing-mounted M-2s destroyed a lot of Japanese troops and equipment,
according to papers I found in his foot locker.
