Historically, it has been the insurance companies that oppose implementing a
national database of damaged cars. They make a lot of money selling the
damaged cars they insure through car dealers to unsuspecting buyers.

You know, there's a big new item in a trade magaxine I get (not really

Wasn't there talk about a national registry of flood damaged cars shortly
after the Hurricane ? I guess nothing came of it? Something fairly
simple
that a politician might actually *accomplish* something (other than
getting
re-elected) by setting somethiing like this up. With the internet it'd
be
a piece of cake - once they get the insurance co.'s on board - to verify
claims of flood damage - of course, the insurance companies could provide
all the info needed. It would save a lot of gullible people the loss of
hard-earned money.

Yep, that car's priced at about a 1/3 of what it should sell for (IMHO) -
it's either got some undisclosed damage or maybe it's stolen?
