If you buy a car based on what it’s potential resale value is you need to ride
the bus. I’ve had my SL500 for almost 8 years and I know I’ll sell it for less
than market value because of the rebuilt title. However, I bought it below
market for just that reason. It’s cost me no more that any other car I’ve
owned, and I’ve gotten over 70k miles out of it, so I’ve come out well ahead.

When the day comes to sell it, I’ll offer it below market and be happy with
whatever I get. If I was worried about future value when I bought it I would
never have considered it, but for the most part I don’t buy cars for investment
potential, I buy them for transportation.
