Yugo and Russian versions did not have chrome plated bores. There’s a fair amount of consternation over this historically, as the Yugoslavians had the resources available in country to do the chrome plating. However, at the time there were plenty of government run factories keeping people employed, so the general consensus is that it was easier to just replace them with a new barrel if they wore out and keep the masses busy.
I have no idea how much wear mine has, but it appears to be tight if I run a gauge through it. It certainly shoots very straight. I thought about disassembling it and refinishing the wood, but I sort of like the”beater” look it has. After a good day of shooting there will be some oil on the stock around the vents. I just wipe it into the wood and call it refinishing. -D > On Aug 31, 2020, at 5:41 PM, Jim Cathey via Mercedes <mercedes@okiebenz.com> > wrote: > >> SKS is a super fun rifle.
